Course summary

Mathematics A Level students are in high demand by employers and those with Mathematics A Level earn, on average, 10% more than those without. Also, mathematics is the essential transferable component across all science, engineering, technology and mathematics subjects. Mathematics is also of great value in the study of economics, business, computing and law. You will be taught by experienced and enthusiastic teachers who will give you plenty of encouragement and support. A Level students study Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics. Pure Mathematics covers proof, algebra and functions, coordinate geometry in the (x, y) plane, sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms, differentiation, integration and vectors. Statistics covers statistical sampling, data presentation and interpretation, probability, statistical distributions and hypothesis testing. Mechanics covers quantities and units, kinematics, forces and Newton’s laws.

Entry requirements

- Only students following the Higher GCSE should consider A Level Mathematics and a Grade 7 is the minimum requirement. - The minimum requirements for entry to The Friary Sixth Form are 5 GCSE Grades 9-4 including English Language and Mathematics at Grade 5.

How you'll be assessed

Two 2 hour papers (Pure Mathematics) and one 2 hour paper (Statistics and Mechanics) taken in the June of Y13.
