Course summary

A level Biology is for those students who wish to continue after GCSE. Throughout advanced level biology, you will study and be assessed on the following content: Biological Molecular Cells Organisms Exchange Systems Genetic Information and Variation Energy Transfers between Organisms Organism responses to Environmental Change Genetics, Populations, Evolution and Ecosystems The Control of the Gene Expression See the AQA website for further details of each section. There will be teacher led sessions, class-based discussion and individual research. You will need to undertake private study, read around the subject and complete regular homework tasks to stay on track.

Entry requirements

Grade 6/6 in Trilogy science or a grade 6 in GCSE Biology. We also require a grade 6 in English Language and Mathematics. To apply for Nether Stowe Sixth Form students require a Grade 4 or above in at least 5 GCSE’s or equivalent qualifications, including either English (Language or Literature) or Maths.

How you'll be assessed

You will sit 3 papers at the end of the two year course of study: Paper 1 and Paper 2 - Written exam of 2 hours each Paper 3 - Written exam of 2 hours
