Course summary

Human Lifespan development : This unit will develop your knowledge and understanding of patterns of human growth and development and the experience of health and wellbeing. You will learn about factors that can influence human growth, development and human health. Some of these are inherited and some are acquired through environmental, social or financial factors during our lifespan. You will learn about a number of theories and models to explain and interpret behaviour through the human lifespan. This unit is externally assessed. Meeting individual care and support needs: For you to be able to provide the care and support that individuals need, it is important that you have a good understanding of the principles behind providing quality care and support. This unit introduces you to the values and issues that need to be considered when planning care and support that meet the needs of an individual in a health and social care environment. In this unit, you will examine factors that can impact the professionals who provide the care and support, and the challenges that must be overcome to allow access to good quality care and health services. In this unit you will draw on your learning from across your programme to complete assessment tasks.

Entry requirements

Standard requirements - 5 x level 2 qualifications: GCSEs at level 4 or above or BTECs at a pass or above, including at least grade 4 in English and Mathematics.

How you'll be assessed

The Health and Social Care sector is undergoing radical and rapid change. Developments in frontline health and social care mean there's a demand for well-trained and multi-skilled people across a range of rewarding employment opportunities. The course is two thirds coursework and so would suit students who perform well in coursework assessment. It is a vocational course, so students are required to apply their knowledge to health, social care or childcare settings. Students who are are able to experience appropriate work based or voluntary experience in a health, care or early years setting will be able to bring their experience into their portfolio work
