Art and Design offers an exciting broad based curriculum which has been developed to encourage an adventurous and enquiring approach to art, craft and design. The course will allow you to extend a range of creative skills whilst producing a personal collection of original images, artefacts and time based responses in both 2D and 3D. You will build upon existing subject skills and knowledge, exploring a wide variety of traditional and new media, specialist tools and techniques. Whilst further developing your critical understanding of art and design, you will critically analyse and reflect upon the work of others by demonstrating an in depth understanding of their work, influence and impact upon your own practice.
Minimum of GCSE Art and Design grade 5.
Component One (60%) Personal Investigation consists of three major elements: supporting studies, practical work, and a personal study. Project based work will explore themes and ideas developed from personal starting points whilst the personal study will be evidenced through critical written communication showing contextual research and understanding (12%). Component Two (40%) The Externally Set Assignment incorporates two major elements: preparatory studies and the 15–hour period of sustained focus. Preparatory studies investigate the given exam theme exploring media and ideas to create a personal response to be produced during the 15–hour timed test. Your work will be internally assessed and externally moderated by an Edexcel moderator.
