Our Product Design A Level course offers a fascinating and practical insight into the world of designing and producing products. Learning in a purpose-built design studio and fully equipped workshop and guided by expert teachers, you’ll be supported every step of the way in your study of this absorbing topic. You’ll develop your creativity and technical expertise to turn your ideas into real, marketable products. You will learn how to identify market needs and opportunities for new products, initiate and develop design solutions and make and test prototypes/products. Year 1 Through a combination of practical design activities and theory you will gain a thorough understanding of the processes involved in turning ideas into functional products and strengthen your critical thinking and problem-solving skills. You will develop intellectual curiosity about the design and manufacture of products and systems, and their impact on daily life and the wider world and gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of materials, components and processes associated with the creation of products. Year 2 The Iterative Design Project (which makes up 50% of your A Level) will require you to undertake a substantial project focussed on the processes of explore, create and evaluate. You will identify a design opportunity or problem from a context of your own choice for this project.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language and Maths.
In addition to the ‘Iterative Design Project’ in Year two there are 2 written exams that make up 50% of the course.
