Course summary

Physical Education A Level is a challenging course which in recent years has achieved the distinction it deserves. The theory syllabus covers the scientific, socio-cultural and environmental factors which influence Physical Education. This includes topics as diverse as anatomy and physiology, sports psychology and skill acquisition, sport and society and technology in sport.

Entry requirements

● have a minimum GCSE/BTEC Total Point Score (TPS) of 32 (see below) ● meet the subject-specific entry criteria; ● have a full programme of study with 3 A Level courses or equivalent. The most able students have the option of studying a fourth subject. Grade 5 in GCSE PE, Grade 5 in GCSE Science and 1 sport played competitively.

How you'll be assessed

70% written examination, 30% practical assessment. One coursework piece. Paper 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport. Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport.
