Course summary

A level Mathematics will be a continuation of GCSE Mathematics where students are required to apply more problem solving techniques in using their mathematical skills and techniques to make logical and reasoned decisions in a variety of contexts whilst being able to communicate their mathematical rationale. Pure Mathematics 1 - Students start with a recap of GCSE algebra before moving onto new elements of calculus, exponentials and logarithms, as well as extending their knowledge of proofs, coordinate geometry, vectors and graph drawing. Pure Mathematics 2 - Students will extend their knowledge in calculus, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, sequences and series and numerical methods.

GCSE Mathematics at Grade 7 and Grade 4 in 4 other GCSEs including English Language

How you'll be assessed

3 Papers examined at the end of Year 13 Pure Mathematics 1 - 2 hours Pure Mathematics 2 - 2 hours Statistics and Mechanics - 2 Hours There is no coursework. This is a separate qualification to AS Level.
