The Drama and Theatre course provides students with the opportunity to explore, perform, and analyze play texts, as individuals and as part of a group. On the course, students will be encouraged to think creatively, communicate effectively, and work as part of a team. Students will be expected to conduct independent research, participate in performances, and evaluate themselves and others. All of these skills are highly regarded by employers and universities. The course will include, at least one theatre visit to analyze and evaluate the work of professionals. Component 1: Devising (40%) Component 2: Text in Performance (20%) Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice (40%)

Component 1: Devising (40%) This is an internally assessed unit. Students work as part of a group to create and perform an original piece of theatre based on an extract from a play and the work of a theatre practitioner. Component 2: Text in Performance (20%) This is an externally assessed unit which means your performance will be examined by a Drama Teacher chosen by the exam board. Students perform either a monologue or a duologue or they can opt to be assessed on technical support. Students must also take part in a group performance as either a performer or a designer. Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice (40%) This is an externally assessed written exam lasting 2 hours and 30 minutes.
