Course summary

• Studying French or Spanish at A level allows students to develop their linguistic skills alongside their understanding of the culture and society of the French speaking or the Hispanic world. • Students hoping to continue with a language at A level must be excited about speaking it as much as possible, as lessons are conducted in the target language with an emphasis on student participation and leadership. • All students will be strongly encouraged to undertake a week’s Work Experience in France or Spain during Year 12. • The topics covered link to Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology, History, Geography, Business, Literature, Drama and Science. • Learning a language to this level supports a range of possible careers outside of the linguistic fields, as it demonstrates clear communication skills, as well as analytical thought and awareness of social and cultural issues.

Grade 6 or above in GCSE French/ Spanish GCSE

Exam 1: Aspects of society, culture, and political life in the French speaking/ Hispanic world (2.5hrs) Listening, Reading, Translation. 50% Exam 2: Literature and/or Film (2 hrs) Essay writing. 20% Exam 3: Individual Research project (25mins) Oral exam 30%
