Course summary

Theme 1: Introduction to markets and market failure Candidates will be introduced to microeconomics. They will be expected to understand basic microeconomic models and be able to apply them to real life examples, exploring current economic behaviour. Theme 2: The UK economy – performance and policies Students will be introduced to macroeconomics, how the membership of the EU affects UK economic policy, and be able to analyse commonly used economic data in a critical and informed manner. Theme 3: Business behaviour and the labour market This builds on the concepts from theme 1 and focuses on business economics, Growth, objectives, finance, market structures, labour market and government intervention. Theme 4: A Global Perspective This builds on the concepts from theme 2 focusing on macroeconomic themes applied to a global context, poverty, inequality, the role of the state and international economics. Qualities Required: • A passion for economics and a strong awareness of current affairs. • A willingness to participate in teamwork, presentations and group research. • A high level of literacy, numeracy and a working knowledge of ICT.

Entry requirements

Five GCSES at grades 9-5, which must include grade 9-5 in GCSE English Language and Mathematics. GCSE graded 9-6 in Mathematics, Economics or Business Studies.

1- Written examination (2 hours) based on themes 1 and 3 - June - 35% 2- Written examination (2 hours) based on themes 2 and 4 - June - 35% 3- Written examination (2 hours) based on all 4 themes - June - 30%
