To encourage students to look at the world with an informed and enquiring mind. They involve analysing society and the people in it in a way that is informed by theoretical understanding. The examination specifications have been carefully chosen by departmental staff with expertise in each area to ensure the course best fits the needs of our learners. This qualification is for learners 16 years old or over who want to study health science, social care or childcare. This qualification isn’t just about caring for babies or the elderly and the ill; it will provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress into Higher Education on a Health and Social Care related programme such as Health and Social Care, Nursing, Social Work or Early Childhood Studies. Units undertaken will include: - human lifespan development - working in health and social care - meeting individual care and support needs - supporting individuals with additional needs. Depending upon the size of the qualification chosen other units may also be studied such as Public Health, Supporting those with mental health conditions, Dementia and Research in Health and Social Care. The units will give learners an understanding of Health and Social Care in the contexts of different environments and settings where care takes place, the importance of effective communication in Health and Social Care, the importance of legislation in Health and Social Care and how to deliver a person-centred approach in the care given. Students are required to build independence, organisation, communication, presentation and skills of academic research.
- Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above; including English and/or maths. - National data suggests successful students will have achieved an average points score of 4.0 or more.
