A vocational course in which you will study the science behind sporting success. Designed to support progression to higher education for those of you with a scientific background, that want to study other A levels alongside but still have a passion or interest in Sport and PE. It complements many other subjects, in particular Biology A Level, Human Biology BTEC, Psychology, Health & Social Care and Business Studies. In Sport Science you will study 4 units covering: • Human Anatomy • Sport Psychology • Biomechanics • Sports Coaching The first two units are assessed at the end of Year 12 in two external exams, in Year 13 both units are assessed in coursework portfolios. You are given opportunities to produce evidence that includes: • Written documents detailing findings of their own research • Case studies used to explore complex or unfamiliar situations • Practical sessions and technical skills demonstrations Developing the skills that universities and future employees value: • The ability to learn independently • The ability to research • Being able to give presentations and being active group members
You should be on track to achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 4 - 9, including a grade 5 in English, Maths, PE (or Merit in Sport Studies level 2). An active interest in sport involvement within the PE department/extra-curricular sport and related work experience are also desirable.
