Course summary

Students will work with a variety of different media, techniques, and processes, including both traditional and new technologies. Students will explore a range of resources from different times and cultures. Students will participate in a range of critical and practical activities, including: • Painting and Drawing • Printmaking • Mixed media (including collage and assemblage) • Sculpture (paper mâché; natural materials; plaster casting; wire modelling; collage) • Installation • Environmental Art • Photography (including video, animation, and digital) - Art, Craft, and Design – Within the course, students will explore practical and critical/contextual work through a range of 2D and/or 3D processes and media associated with two or more of the titles below: - Fine art: drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, installation, printmaking and photography. Graphic communication: advertising, packaging design, design for print, illustration, communication graphics, and branding. - Textile design: fashion design, fashion textiles, costume design, digital textiles, printed and/or dyed fabrics and materials, domestic textiles, wallpaper, interior design, constructed textiles, and art textiles. Three-dimensional design: ceramics, sculpture, exhibition design, design for theatre, television and film, interior design, product design, environmental design, architectural design, jewelry/body ornament, and 3D digital design. - Photography: portraiture, landscape photography, still life photography, documentary photography, photojournalism, fashion photography, experimental imagery, multimedia, and photographic installation.

Entry requirements

This endorsement is offered to all students who have received a good grade at GCSE level or who can demonstrate an aptitude for Art and Design skills. Students must be able to work independently and collaboratively.

How you'll be assessed

Component 1: This is a practical investigation supported by written material. Students are required to conduct a practical investigation, into an idea, issue, concept, or theme, supported by written material. The focus of the investigation must be identified independently by the student and must lead to a finished outcome or a series of related finished outcomes. This unit carries a total of 96 marks (60% of A Level). Component 2: Externally set assignment: Each question paper will consist of a choice of eight questions to be used as starting points. Students are required to select one. Students have 15 hours of focused study to realize a piece or piece of work. This Unit carries a total of 96 marks (40% of A Level).
