Physics is a highly regarded subject. Students have good mathematical skills, are competent using ICT and can solve complex problems. The course involves extensive practical work including designing and evaluating experiments, much use of ICT involving simulations, video and presentation work. Students will also use mathematical modelling techniques to compare theory with the results of experiments. A-level Physics is a pre-requisite for many higher education courses, especially Engineering and other technology based subjects. Physicists also are required in many other fields such as Medicine, Pharmaceuticals, Astronomy, Meteorology, Nanotechnology, finance, games design and computing.
Grade 6 -6 GCSE in Combined Science and a Grade 6 on the two component papers of the science intended to study OR Grade 6 in separate Physics. Five GCSEs Grade 9-5, including Maths and English.
This is now a two year course, with all assessment taking place in June of the second year. Students will sit three exam papers to test their knowledge on the content and practical skills taught during the course. The A-level qualification is based on written exams only.
