The Advanced Level Further Mathematics is a two-year course that builds on the skills, knowledge and understanding set out in the whole GCSE mathematics content as well as the subject content for the Advanced Level Mathematics (This is why Advanced Level Mathematics is also required to be a course selection, in order to take this option course). The course is designed to reward students for demonstrating the ability to provide responses that draw together different areas of their knowledge, skills and understanding from across the full course of study of Advanced level mathematics. Further to this, problem-solving, proof and mathematical modelling will be assessed in further mathematics that goes beyond the knowledge studied at Advanced level mathematics. Half of the course is based around further pure mathematics with the other half being made up of the applied decision module. There are four equally weighted 90-minute examinations taken at the end of the two-year course in June of year 13. All papers include a mix of question styles from short single mark questions to multistep problems. Papers 1 & 2 test just the further pure mathematics part of the course. Papers 3 & 4 tests decision mathematics.
