
A demanding but enjoyable programme of study, where you will have the opportunity of extending your skills and control in a wide range of materials, processes and techniques. Creative work and an independent, imaginative approach are underpinned by a strong emphasis on observational work in a variety of media. Students explore the work of other artists in depth and this analysis will develop individual artistic skills and ideas. Students are provided with space to work in their independent study time and are encouraged to use the art facilities after school. Staff are often available to support students’ independent research and refining at these times. Students are encouraged to support the Art Club and get involved with the school production in order to develop their creative skills.
Grade 5 GCSE Art or a portfolio of creative work that illustrates skill level and interest in the subject.
A linear course with 2 assessed units: • Unit 1 Personal Investigation 60% of final grade completed by January 31st of second year. • Unit 2 Externally Set Assignment 40% of final grade. Starting in February of the final year and leading to a 15 hour practical exam in the art rooms. Marks are given for preparation work and the final outcome.
