You will develop a range of skills including the ability to analyse and interpret scientific data. You will also gain skills in designing scientific investigations taking into account factors such as ensuring variables are controlled in experiments and that the data is collected is reliable. You will also gain practical skills by carrying out a range of scientific experiments which will include titrations and chromatography. The A-Level consists of the study of Physical, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry topics. In Physical Chemistry, you will study atomic structure, bonding, energetics and kinetics along with chemical calculations. These are some of the building blocks of chemistry. In Inorganic Chemistry, you will learn how to explain, and predict, the patterns in properties and reactivity that occur through the periodic table and some of the reactions of certain groups.
Minimum Grade 5 in English Language, Minimum Grade 6 in Maths and Science
At the end of the 2 year course you will be assessed by completing 3 examination papers, paper 1, paper 2 and paper 3. The combined mark for these 3 examination papers will determine your overall grade.
