Course summary

Chemistry is the scientific discipline involved with elements and compounds composed of atoms, molecules, and ions: their composition, structure, properties, behavior, and the changes they undergo during a reaction with other substances. In the scope of its subject, chemistry occupies an intermediate position between physics and biology. It is sometimes called central science because it provides a foundation for understanding both basic and applied scientific disciplines at a fundamental level. Year 12 1) Stoichiometric relationships Atomic structure 2) Periodicity Bonding & Structure 3) Energetics and thermochemistry 4) Chemical kinetics & equilibrium 5) Acids and bases 6) Measurement and data processing and analysis and IA Year 13 1) Redox processes 2) Organic chemistry 3) Option 4) Exam Preparation 5) IB exams Academic study with the acquisition of practical and investigative skills. Students have opportunities to design investigations, collect data, develop manipulative skills, analyze results, collaborate with peers, and evaluate and communicate their findings.
