The course will develop your academic understanding of the sports industry. In addition, you will augment your vocational skills by assisting PE teachers and coaches in lesson support, local primary school sports or extra-curricular clubs. Moreover, you will develop your sporting performance through individualized training programs and expand your personal skills through sports leadership and a range of events, trips, and residential study visits. The course is equivalent to three A-levels which means when you have finished the course you can choose whether to get a job straight away or go into higher education first. The course is made up of 14 units (or subjects) which cover the broad range of the sports industry. The internally assessed units that comprise the course are: Practical Sports Performance Sport Leadership Skill Acquisition in Sport Application of Fitness Testing Research Methods in Sport Professional Development in the Sports Industry Sports Event Management Coaching for Performance Sports Injury Management Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport The externally assessed units that are assessed by Pearson by a set task or a written exam set and marked by Pearson are: Anatomy and Physiology Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being Development and Provision of Sport Investigating Business in Sport and the Active Leisure Industry
Minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent) with grades 4-9 (A*-C). This must include at least four full course GCSEs. Merit in BTEC Sport if studied at Level 2.
Ten of the units are assessed internally through the production of a portfolio of evidence. This evidence is generated through written assignments, presentations or practical demonstrations. Four of the units are assessed externally through an exam and set tasks.
