Biology is never far from the headlines: the human genome has been sequenced, the ability to prevent ageing or the development of transplant surgery. Biologists are concerned with a variety of issues and work in the field of cell biology, medicine, food production and ecology and the work they do is vital to us all for our wellbeing and survival. Year 12 Module 1 – Development of practical skills in biology These practical skills will be assessed in the written exam and practical endorsement. Module 2 – Foundations in biology Module 3 – Exchange and transport Module 4 – Biodiversity, evolution and disease Year 13 Module 5 – Communication, homeostasis and energy Module 6 – Genetics, evolution and ecosystems
Standard (Five GCSE subjects at a minimum grade 4 or the equivalent including English) with grade 6 in GCSE Biology and Maths or grade 6-6 in Combined Science with a grade 6 in Maths.
There will be 3 exam papers: Paper 1: Biological processes 2 hrs 15 mins 37% of A level grade Paper 2: Biological diversity 2 hrs 15 mins 37% of A level grade Paper 3: Unified Biology 1 hr 30 mins 26% of A level grade Practical skills will be examined in all the papers.
