Course summary

Physics is at the heart of everything, making it the basis of all modern science and technological developments. You’ll delve inside the nucleus to discover sub-atomic particles and consider the true nature of light and how its properties may be exploited. It’s a course to develop your imagination, investigative skills, and mathematical ability. After taking your GCSEs, there is no doubt that you will be well aware of the kind of work that is involved in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and you will know whether you have a passion and aptitude for Science. While choosing these subjects at A Level presents another step up in terms of academic challenge, our team of specialist subject teachers is here to equip you with everything you need to be well-prepared, ready, and excited to meet the rigor of these intellectually stimulating qualifications. This course builds upon concepts and skills that you will have developed through GCSE. Students will have more opportunities to learn and use practical skills to link theory to practice, deepening their knowledge and understanding of the laws that govern the physical world.

Entry requirements

Five standard passes at GCSE (9-4) in five different subjects (only one BTEC will be considered), with at least one being GCSE English or GCSE Maths. A minimum of two grades 6 in GCSE Science, plus a grade 6 in maths.

Paper 1: Any content from Units 1-5, and 6.1 (Periodic motion). 34% of A Level. Paper 2: Thermal physics, fields & nuclear physics. 34% of A Level. Paper 3: Practical skills and data analysis Astrophysics. 32% of A Level.
