Anyone with a general interest in business news and current affairs will enjoy the course. It covers business structures, ethics, the economy, finance, marketing, human resources and management. It helps students: • Develop a critical understanding of organisations, the markets they work within and the process of adding value. • Become aware that business behaviour can be studied from the perspectives of a range of stakeholders. • Acquire a range of skills including decision-making, problem solving and an awareness of current business practice.
• Entry to the Sixth Form is based on meeting the standard entry requirements. These include the passing of Maths and English Language at a grade 4. • In addition to this we use a calculation called Attainment 8 to work out a score for students to indicate their suitability for each pathway. This score is generated by combining a students’ best 8 subject grades, counting English and Maths twice and including a minimum of three Ebacc subjects; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Core & Additional Science, Computer Science, History, Geography, French, Spanish and German. For Waingels students this score will be included in any reports home. • A Level Pathway (selecting only A Levels): 50 ( Average Grade 5) • A grade 5 in Maths and English Language or Literature. No previous Business Studies background is required however they will need at least a grade 4 if the student sat GCSE Business Studies, their grade will be a good indicator of success on the A Level course.
