The Art and Design course promotes an experimental approach using a range of materials including painting, print, and mixed media. Observational drawing underpins all Art and design practice and is an essential requirement for the course. Students engage in practical studio work aimed to further their knowledge and understanding of a range of processes. All practical work is contextualized with research and analysis of artists’ work. The course offers different ways to develop your artistic flair, but also develop valuable life skills. You will learn how to be driven and self-motivated because working independently is a key component of being successful in any Art-based A Level. Art and Design encourages students to think creatively as well as develop practical skills. • Art and design are practical, exciting, and creative and can be personalized to suit your own specific set of interests. • Many of our students have gone on to study Art at Foundation and Degree level with several now teaching or working in a creative profession. • We consistently achieve outstanding results. • If you like working in a ‘hands-on’ manner. • You prefer coursework-based study.
Five standard passes at GCSE (9-4) in five different subjects (only one BTEC will be considered), with at least one being GCSE English or GCSE Maths. A minimum of grade 4 in GCSE Art plus a portfolio of work.
This course is 60% coursework and 40% externally set examination. All work is internally assessed and then externally verified by an exam board moderator.
