Course summary

This course is practically based and explores drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, 3D sculpture and mixed media techniques. There will also be elements of photography and working with Creative Software; including Photoshop CS6. As in GCSE Fine Art you will work to a theme, making drawings and studies, developing ideas, looking at the work of other artists and producing your own finished artwork while evaluating the process. Component 1 (60%) For your chosen Fine Art specialism in A level Art you will produce three coursework projects. This includes a self set project, with extended written work, you will choose your own area of study for this unit of work. This component will take place over the first and second year of study. Component 2 (40%)You will be given an externally set project with a practical exam of fifteen hours duration for the creation and completion of your final piece of art work. This component will take place in your second year of study.

Entry requirements

- You will need at least a grade C in GCSE Fine Art, Art Textiles. If you have not studied Fine Art at GCSE you will be required to produce a portfolio of your work in April of Year 11. - A minimum of Six GCSEs (or equiv.) at Grade 5 (or above)

How you'll be assessed

Practical and written Coursework (60%) and Practical Examination (40%) with fifteen hours exam for the creation and completion of your final piece of art work.
