The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Music Performance offers learners the opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life. This course is ideal for those learners who are looking to build a career in one of the performing arts sectors or to progress to further education within the field of music. This course is a mixture of exam, synoptic assessment and coursework and is fully recognised by employers and further education establishments. Learners taking this qualification will study the following four units: Unit 1: Practical Music Theory Harmony Unit 2: Professional Practice in the Music Industry Unit 3: Ensemble Music Performance Unit 4: Music Performance Sessions Styles In year 12, students work on units 2 and 3. They research and learn about all the main aspects of the Music Industry. They also work in a variety of ensembles in the preparation for a concert. In year 13, students work on units 1 and 4. They produce a presentation which covers the main aspects of musical notation, and then put their knowledge into practise by composing using chords and melodies. They also research music from different decades and work towards a performance to demonstrate their characteristics.
• Students are expected to achieve a minimum of five GCSE 9-4 grades including English or Mathematics to study in the Sixth Form. • Students are required to achieve the standard College requirements including a 9-4 in GCSE Music.
tudents will build on experience from GCSE Music to enhance their knowledge and increase their understanding of factors that affect performance and participation. The course is taught in a variety of methods ranging from classroom to practical based lessons. Some units will also involve planning and putting on performances. The course is assessed using the Pass (C), Merit (B), and Distinction (A) criteria.
