You will look at a variety of topics including child development from birth to seven years inclusive, how and why children play, how to meet the physical needs of children whilst keeping them safe, and how to plan and assess the progress of the children in literacy and numeracy. You will also undertake 50 hours of work experience in two different settings, one nursery and one school.
English GCSE – Grade 4
UNIT 1: Children’s Development. This is assessed by an external 1 hour 30 minutes examination. UNIT 2: Development of Children’s Communication, Literacy and Numeracy Skills. This is assessed by reading a scenario and undertaking 2 hours of supervised assessment where students will produce up to of our sides of A4 notes, which can then be taken into a further 6 hours of supervised assessment, where they will answer examination questions. Unit 3: Play and Learning. This assessed by externally set coursework assignments. Unit 5: Keeping Children Safe. This is assessed by externally set coursework assignments.
