Course summary

One year or two years dependant on whether you are studying for the certificate or extended certificate. In your first year you will study the following units: • Dispute solving civil law – this unit explores how civil disputes are resolved, both in the courts and by alternative means. You will learn about the law on negligence • Investigating Aspects of Criminal Law and the Legal System – in this unit you will develop the skills to investigate and research how laws are made both inside and outside of parliament. You will also be introduced to how criminal law works In your second year you will study the following units: • Applying the law – this unit examines the law related to specific crimes, including fatal offences and offences against the property. You will also explore police procedures and criminal defences • Aspects of Family Law – this unit explores the requirements of marriage and civil partnership, the law governing the breakdown of relationships, as well as how disputes over children are resolved by the courts. Entry requirements

Grades 9-4 in English and four or more GCSEs at grades 9-4.

How you'll be assessed

By coursework and by exam in both years.
