The A Level Mathematics course is split into a 2:1 ratio of pure and applied content. Pure topics covered include Proof, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus. In the Applied section, the topics covered are Data Presentation and Interpretation, Probability, Statistical Distributions, Hypothesis Testing, alongside Kinematics and Newton’s Laws. This course is perfect for students who enjoyed Mathematics at GCSE and is also recommended for students electing to take A Levels in a Science subject or Economics.
• Entry to the Sixth Form is based on meeting the standard entry requirements. These include the passing of Maths and English Language at a grade 4. • In addition to this we use a calculation called Attainment 8 to work out a score for students to indicate their suitability for each pathway. This score is generated by combining a students’ best 8 subject grades, counting English and Maths twice and including a minimum of three Ebacc subjects; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Core & Additional Science, Computer Science, History, Geography, French, Spanish and German. For Waingels students this score will be included in any reports home. • A Level Pathway (selecting only A Levels): 50 ( Average Grade 5) • A grade 6 in Maths at GCSE.
