Course summary

The Drama and Theatre A-level course comprises 3 components: 1. Devising an original performance piece and a written portfolio (40%: internally examined, externally moderated); 1. A group and an individual performance (20% - externally examined); 2. A written examination that includes practical exploration of two plays and how they might be performed, and an evaluation of live theatre (40% - externally examined). It is an exciting mixture of both academic and practical work that will equip you with a wide range of transferable skills that you will find useful whatever your future career path. You will need a grade 6 or above in GCSE English, a sense of curiosity, and a good imagination. It is useful to have taken Drama at GCSE but not essential. As an A level student you will: ● Develop your interest in Drama and Theatre as a director, a performer, and as an audience member; ● Challenge your opinions and attitudes; ● Discover more about the historical aspects of theatre. ● Develop creative skills in performance, direction and design, as well as communication, interpretation and evaluation.

Entry requirements

- 6 at GCSE - A minimum GCSE score of 48 points from the best eight full course GCSE passes (see points tables below). - A minimum of a grade 5 in English and Mathematics. - A minimum grade for each subject as specified in the subject specific table.

40% Written and Practical Coursework. 20% practical examination. 40% Written Exam.
