Course summary

This course is split into three sections. The first examines the way that the UK is governed and the way that politics impacts the process of the British Government. The second examines a comparison between the UK government and politics, and the government and politics of the USA. The third explores the impact of the different political ideologies of Liberalism, Socialism, Conservatism and Nationalism. Students will learn about all aspects of the state, the nature of democracy, the role of the media and the core political ideas which have shaped the UK’s and US’s political landscape. Students do not need any prior knowledge of politics, but must have an interest in current affairs and political issues.

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in a Humanities subject or grade 6 in English Literature.
