BTEC Diploma Health & Social course provides the knowledge and employability skills students need to succeed at a higher level of study and in their chosen career. Students who have experience in research, extended writing, and meeting deadlines will be well-prepared for Higher Education. These courses will give you the skills you need for either university or work in the Health & Social Care sector A wide range of subjects are covered which will raise your awareness of the many rewarding career opportunities that exist Teachers are friendly, approachable, and supportive. The content of this qualification has been designed to ensure it supports progression towards higher study. In addition, employers and professional bodies have been involved in order to confirm that the content is also appropriate for those interested in working in the sector. Learners taking this qualification will study six mandatory units: • Human Lifespan Development • Working in Health and Social Care • Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs • Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care • Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care • Promoting Public Health. Learners can select two optional units that cover the biological or sociological topics relevant to the different parts of the sector to support their progression to specialized degree programs in the sector. To develop a better understanding of the demands of working in the sector and to demonstrate their commitment and interest in the sector when applying for further study, learners can choose to take a minimum of 100 hours of work experience as part of the course. Optional units allow learners to develop their interests in different parts of the sector and include: • Sociological Perspectives • Psychological Perspectives • Caring for Individuals with Additional Needs • Physiological Disorders and their Care • Nutritional Health.
5 x grade 4s or above at GCSE or equivalent. Grade 4 in GCSE Maths, English Language & Science and a Pass in BTEC Health & Social Care (if studied).
There are no formal exams but you will be assessed on your performance against clear criteria throughout the coursework units that make up the course. Assessment of these units requires you to complete a number of assignments. Evidence for these assignments can be presented in a variety of formats such as written reports, presentations, work placement records, witness statements, etc.
