
In Year 12 students will develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of theatre practitioners and in a selected style, devise a performance piece influenced by the themes and context within ‘Frankenstein’ by Nick Dear (after Mary Shelley). This component forms 40% of the A-level qualification. In Year 13 students will explore and perform a full-length play and a monologue/duologue from published play-texts, presenting the final, fully conceived performances to a visiting examiner. Live theatre is a highly important area of the course that is embedded throughout the two years, with multiple trips available throughout. Students will see a variety of styles and types of performance throughout the course that support all areas of the course, and also is specifically examined in the form of a live theatre section in the written paper.
5 GCSEs graded 9 – 4 including English and Mathematics. Drama at grade 4 is preferred.
