Course summary

Biology is the study of life. From new medical treatments to the impact of climate change, Biology is relevant to everyone. In the first year of A-level Biology, you will study the molecules and cells found in all living organisms as well as the cardiovascular, digestive and immune systems. The second year addresses genetics, ecology, evolution, homeostasis, nerves and muscles. Your studies throughout the course will be supported by a wide variety of teaching and learning materials, including online resources. Practical work is assessed throughout the course to help you develop skills in laboratory techniques and data analysis. Biology requires strong analysis and communication skills.

Entry requirements

Five grades 4-9 (or equivalent) including at least grade 6 in Mathematics and either Biology or both Biology exam components of Double Science. If you do not expect to achieve these grades, you may wish to consider the BTEC Diploma in Applied Science, which covers many of the same topics.
