Course summary
Unit 1 covers some of the key science concepts in biology, chemistry and physics and is assessed with a formal written examination. In Unit 2, students will be introduced to quantitative laboratory techniques, calibration, chromatography, calorimetry and laboratory safety, which are relevant to the chemical and life science industries. This will be assessed through written internally set assignments. Unit 3 will cover the stages involved and the skills needed in planning a scientific investigation: how to record, interpret, draw scientific conclusions and evaluate. This will be formally assessed by a task set by Pearson (Edexcel). Unit 11 Genetics and Genetic Engineering - students will gain an understanding of the structure of DNA, cell division and the principles of Mendelian genetics and variation.
