
The media industry is changing rapidly with advances in technology and online platforms allowing the distribution of content to become instant and global. Understanding the media industry and your part in it, you will learn about how the media operates and get a practical and theoretic introduction to the knowledge, skills and understanding of the digital media industry. This course is designed to develop an understanding of how different media institutions operate to create products for specific target audiences. You will also develop knowledge and understanding of media pre-production, planning and production processes. You will develop transferable skills such as planning, communication, adaptability and leadership. The examined unit is on the current Media Industry as a whole, including how media products are created to meet the needs of a specific target audience. The remaining units could include students investigating journalism, the news industry and audience. Other options may include creating their own media product by producing a double page magazine article on a subject of their choice.
At least five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, with at least three from the core subjects.
To be awarded a full qualification, a learner must achieve at least a Pass grade for all units required for the qualification. Learners will be awarded a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* qualification grade determined by the aggregation of points gained through the successful achievement of individual units.
