Politics is an exciting and ever-changing subject that is relevant to you. It is a useful subject to study because it helps you to understand the different ways of resolving conflicts and how to influence issues in society. Therefore, this course is for students who enjoy learning about what is happening in the political world around them and globally. Topics are taught through a mixture of approaches, including class and group discussions, debates, TV viewing, individual and group assignments and up-to-date research tasks. The contemporary nature of politics means that the textbook is of limited value; you will be expected to research a good deal of material independently via the internet or newspapers. This is an essay-based course so we will also be working on our exam technique.
To study this course you will need to have achieved five GCSEs at Grade C or above, which need to include English. The subject is essay based so the ability to write coherently is very much needed. This is a very demanding course and you should not undertake it if you are not prepared to work hard.
