Course summary

Language Variation: Exploring how language varies depending on location, function and audience. How language choices create and mold personal identities. How language varies from 1550, to the present day. Child Language: Exploring spoken language acquisition and how children learn to write between the ages of 0 – 8. Investigating Language: Students will select from five topic areas (gender, global English, power, journalism and region variation) and develop their research and investigation skills, apply their knowledge of language levels and key language concepts. Non-examination Assessment (NEA): Crafting language: Students will research and demonstrate their skills as creative writers within a selected genre, crafting texts for different audiences and/or purposes and reflect on their research and writing in an accompanying commentary.

Entry requirements

Grade 5 in English Language.
