Advanced level Sociology offers students the opportunity to develop the essential knowledge and understanding of central aspects of sociological thought and methods. It is designed to encourage students to demonstrate the application of a range of skills and consider the integration of sociological themes: * Socialisation, culture and identity * Social differentiation, power and stratification. The two year A Level course provides an introduction to a range of areas of sociological interest, examining the role of institutions in society, inequality, discrimination and power relationships. Students will learn how to conduct sociological research, using a variety of methods such as interviews and questionnaires. The course also offers an insight into many current social issues, giving you the chance to explore the contributions of sociology to the real world, in fields such as criminology and education. During the first year students will focus specifically on the family, education and research methods. Further to this, during the second year, students will focus specifically on the mass media and crime and deviance. Theory and methods will be considered throughout the course.
