Textile design involves creation, selection and manipulation across a variety of practices. The tools used in textile design are wide ranging, encompassing traditional hand crafts and computer-aided technology, for example, hand embroidery and computerized sewing machines. Natural and manufactured materials, including paper, wire, tissue, gauze, plastics, re-cycled packaging and cloths such as silk, wool, cotton, polyester and hessian are used to address aspects of design in fashion, furnishing and fine art. In the context of this specification, disciplines include constructed textiles, dyed textiles, printed textiles, fine art textiles and fashion textiles. Students will be required to work in one or more of these disciplines.
- Students will have 5 GCSEs grades A*-C. The best foundation for success at A Level Art is a good grade in Art and Design or Textiles at GCSE. If you have a proven aptitude for the subject, are interested in creating and understanding Art Textiles and have the determination to develop that interest, you have the basic skills to succeed. - Students wanting to study subjects in the Academic Pathway must meet the minimum average points score listed below, including a Grade 5 in English, and meet the individual subject entry criteria
Component 1- Personal Investigation 60% of qualification. Component 2 Externally set assignment 40% of qualification
