Course summary

Why study BTEC applied science? This qualification is primarily designed to support progression to applied science, and related employment, after further study at university. However, it also supports students progressing directly to employment as the transferable knowledge, understanding and skills will give successful students an advantage when applying for a range of entry-level industry training programmes and/or higher apprenticeships, in areas such as laboratory technician, industrial technician or medical technician. Students can go on to study subjects such as biology, forensic science and biomedical sciences, or enter the workplace to pursue careers with the police or in the medical care sector. What will you study? Year 12 The course is made up of mandatory and optional units. Units studied include: Units 1 –Principles and Applications of Science Unit 3 –Science Investigations Skills Year 13 Unit 2 –Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques Unit 8–Physiology of Human Body Systems

Entry requirements

APS of 3.7+. Grade 4 in science subjects, or grade 4-4 for trilogy science.

How you'll be assessed

Throughout the two years there will be termly assessments, assignments and one external examination.
