A Level in Physical Education will equip students with both the depth and breadth of knowledge, understanding and skills relating to scientific, socio-cultural and practical aspects of physical education. This requires students to: • Develop theoretical knowledge and understanding of the factors that underpin physical activity and sport and use this knowledge to improve performance. • Understand how physiological and psychological states affect performance. • Understand key socio-cultural factors that influence people’s involvement in physical activity and sport. • Refine their ability to perform effectively in physical activity and sport by developing skills and techniques and selecting and using tactics, strategies and/or compositional ideas. • Develop their ability to analyse and evaluate to improve performance.
Students should have achieved at least a Merit in Level 2 BTEC Sport and a grade 5 or above in GCSE Science. Students may be considered for the course without a Level 2 BTEC Sport or GCSE qualification, however this is at the discretion of the PE department. It is also preferred if students take part in sport outside of the Academy as part of a team or have participated in a school sports team, due to the standard of performance needed to be shown for the practical element.
