The students will study 4 units: Unit 1: Practical Music Theory and Harmony (Year 12). Unit 2:Professional Practice in the Music Industry (Year 13). Unit 3: Ensemble Music Performance (Year 12). Unit 5: Music Performance Session Styles (Year 13).
Useful: Be able to read music, to have studied GCSE Music. Desirable: Grade 5 or above at GCSE Music, to have performed in a public space to an audience. Essential: Experience in playing an instrument. This may have been done in private lessons outside of school.
Students are assessed on the three main disciplines of music; theory, composition and performance. They are required to demonstrate their understanding of music theory through application and the composition of musical ideas. In addition to this, they will be required to rehearse and perform as part of an ensemble in a number of live performances whilst reflecting on the processes they go through to prepare a song for performance.
