This qualification builds on the student’s experience from Key Stage 4 who have an interest in studying sport, leisure or fitness. The course content is designed to follow on from GCSE Physical Education or an equivalent vocational qualification enabling a smooth transition from one to the other, although it is not a requirement to have studied physical education or sport at Key Stage 4. This qualification is not just about being able to play sport; it will provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress into Higher Education on a sport-related program such as Sport and Physical Education, Sport Science, Sports Coaching and Development or Sport and Leisure Management. Students will gain an understanding of sport in the wider contexts of coaching and leadership, anatomy and physiology, the body’s short - and long-term responses to physical activity and the framework of sport in the UK and the organizations involved.
GCSEs at Grade 4 preferably including GCSE Mathematics, English Language, and Science. It is recommended that you have successfully studied GCSE or BTEC PE or equivalent in Key Stage 4 at Grade 4.
