Course summary

Computing is concerned with both computers and computer systems – how they work and how they are designed, constructed, and used. This course encompasses programming languages, data structures, algorithms, and the underlying science of information and computation. The influence of computing has been profound in shaping the world in which we now live with the use of technology almost universal among UK businesses. While three units are mandatory, the fourth unit is can be selected from a range of option. These topics include: Digital Graphics and Animation, Mobile App Design, Website Development and Systems Analysis and Design. The selection of optional topic will be made based on cohorts.

Entry requirements

STS Sixth Form offers a broad range of A Level and Applied general qualifications that will prepare you for university or employment. To access this route, you will need to have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Math's; however, some subjects have specific entry criteria. Additional Entry Requirements Grade 4 or above in Science.

How you'll be assessed

Component 1 3hr External written examination. Design and Technology in the 21st Century 50% Component 2 Design and make project Non-exam assessment. A sustained design and make project, based on a brief developed by the candidate’s ability to, identify, investigate and outline design possibilities, design and make prototypes, analyse and evaluate design decisions including for prototypes made by themselves and others 50%
