Course summary

Ever wondered how the heart works, how hormones control the body, how and why animals and plants are different from each other? Then the challenging but rewarding Biology course could be for you. The large amount of information covered makes this course desirable for a wide range of courses at university including degrees in healthcare, medicine, veterinary science or dentistry, as well as the biological sciences, such as biochemistry, molecular biology or forensic science. Biology can also complement sports science, psychology, sociology and many more. A-level Biology is widely regarded as a facilitating subject and by choosing facilitating subjects at advanced level, you will have a much wider range of options open to you at university. An advanced level qualification in any facilitating subject will keep open to you a number of degree courses. A Level of Biology can open up a range of career opportunities including biological, medical, or environmental research, forensics, sports and science communication. The transferable skills you will learn, such as problem-solving, are also useful for many other areas, such as law. The specification is divided into topics, each covering different key concepts of Biology. There are six modules in total, with five covering the content of the course and one that covers practical skills. The modules cover the following areas of Biology: Foundations in Biology, Exchange and Transport, Biodiversity, Evolution and Disease, Communication, Homeostasis and Energy, and finally Genetics, Evolution and Ecosystems.
