Course summary

If you have enjoyed English at GCSE and want to build on and develop the skills you have gained, and you enjoy reading and exploring the way the English language works, this may be the course for you. This is the only course where you can combine all the aspects of the study of English in both its written and spoken forms. This course will make you think, so you will be a person who enjoys exploring and sharing ideas!

Entry requirements

You will need to have gained a grade 6 in English Language or Literature. You will also need the basic requirements of 5 or more Grade 4s (or equivalent) at GCSE.

How you'll be assessed

Unit 1: Voices in Speech and Writing Written exam -2 hours 30 minutes 50 marks 40% of A level Unit 2: Varieties in Language and Literature Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes 50 marks 40% of A level Unit 3: Coursework: Investigating and Creating Texts Students produce two assignments: Two pieces of original writing: one piece of fiction and one piece of creative non-fiction One analytical commentary reflecting on their studied texts and the pieces of writing they have produced Advisory word count is 2500 -3000 words in total 20% of A level
