Throughout the course you will learn how to conduct a historical investigation, analyze sources and interpretations, and support judgments using precisely selected evidence. This course will help you identify which sources of information can be trusted, and which should be treated with caution! What are the progression opportunities? This course will help you to develop research, analytical and writing skills that are highly valued in a huge range of careers. Students who are successful at A-Level History often go onto careers in management, law, business, journalism, teaching, media and museum curator.
At least 4 x GCSE at grade 5 or above. 6+ in GCSE History. GCSE English 5.
Paper 1 – Russia 1917-91; From Lenin to Gorbachev. Paper 2 – Mao’s China, 1949-76. Paper 3 – The British Experience of Warfare, 1790-1918. Coursework – The Arab-Israeli Conflict. Assessment is 80% examinations-based, with three papers at the end of Year 13. The other 20% of the qualification is coursework, which is completed in Year 13.
