Course summary

You will have enjoyed mathematics at school, and you take satisfaction in applying mathematical methods correctly to solve problems. You will be comfortable using algebra. You will develop many of the topics met in GCSE mathematics as well as introducing new ideas such as calculus. You’ll study a substantial core of pure mathematics. In addition you’ll study applied mathematics such as decision mathematics, mechanics and statistics. Further Mathematics, which can only be studied alongside A level Mathematics, provides an opportunity for those with an aptitude for mathematics to develop concepts more deeply and study additional topics. It is particularly useful if you wish to specialise in mathematics, physics, engineering or related subjects at university. Mathematics lessons make use of modern learning technologies, for example graphical calculators and computers are both used to enhance understanding and learning. Many students go on to study mathematics or related disciplines including sciences and engineering at university.
