The study of English Literature will include a variety of texts from different genres. The texts this year will range from Shakespeare's 'Othello' to Kathryn Stockett's 'The Help'. There will be varied learning aids and work will be both independent and group based. Critical reading skills will be developed, to aid understanding of writing methods. This subject is challenging and will help develop reflective and independent reading; wider cultural experiences are included such as theatre visits and students should seek to participate in such opportunities as they arise.
- Given the very demanding works of literature that must be studied independently, a Grade 6 in English Literature and English Language will provide the basis for success. - Students must achieve 5 or more GCSE passes. - Two of these passes must be Grade 6 or higher. - Students who have not achieved either Grade 4 or above in English and Maths will be expected to achieve this by completing a resit in the first year of study.
