This qualification (equivalent in size to one A Level) gives a broad introduction to the performing arts sector with an emphasis on core knowledge and fundamental skills that are transferable across other sectors, preparing you for a bright future. Students who take the course can expect to be challenged in all three disciplines (acting, dancing, and singing.) The course also offers students the opportunity to participate in large-scale productions throughout the year, including musical theatre & modern drama. The course provides students with skills to improve their stage-craft, as well as developing high-level communication and teamwork skills. Through participation in productions and intensive workshops, students learn to utilize various performance approaches (e.g. Stanislavskian and Brechtian theatre) to broaden their theatrical knowledge and range.
6 GCSE subjects at Grades 4-9 This must include: English and Maths in Grade 4
Unit 1: Investigating Practitioners’ Work – you are assessed on your critical analysis skills and contextual understanding of how practitioners communicate themes in their work. Unit 2: Live Performance – you are assessed with a focus on developing skills and techniques in at least two performance styles. Unit 3: Group Performance Workshop – you are assessed through creative, physical, and vocal skills and techniques, working collaboratively to create a performance in response to a given stimulus. Unit 27: Musical Theatre Techniques – you are assessed through performing in the annual school production. You will apply musical theatre techniques to the development, rehearsal and performance of the annual school show.
